Watch The Switch Description
I had serious reservations about this movie. The only Jennifer Aniston movie I have ever liked was Office Space, and that had nothing to do with her. But The Switch has a great premise and a really great performance by Jason Bateman, who even though is second billed is really the star of the show.
Aniston plays Kassie, a woman approaching 40 who decides that she can no longer wait to find her prince charming to have a baby. So she tells Wally, her neurotic New York friend (Jason Bateman), over lunch that she is going to have a baby via artificial insemination. Wally is heartbroken since he secretly loves her but supports her just the same.
Later at Kassie’s “pregnancy” party Wally gets drunk and accidently destroys the donated sperm that she has in the bathroom. Horrified, he substitutes his own semen just before he blacks-out. Later when he awakens he remembers nothing that happened.
Kassie moves away to have her baby and then returns 7 years later to New York, bringing her 7 year old with her. When Wally meets the boy he is surprised just how much he looks and acts like himself. The others in the town make the same observation.
The Switch is a movie about a relationship, but not about a romantic relationship between the Aniston and Bateman characters. This is a father – son relationship movie. As Wally and the boy become closer he begins to remember what he did 7 years earlier. There are some very tender moments in this movie as Wally and the boy develop that Father and Son relationship. This is a winner all around.
