Watch The Company Men Description
The Company Men attempts to show the human toll taken when companies layoff large numbers of employees. What is interesting however is that the film focuses on what happens to the well-paid, senior executives when they too are swept out in the purge.
Ben Affleck plays Bobby Walker, the most prominent victim in the sudden layoffs. Forced out of his $120,000 job, Walker is confident that he will find another, similar paying job in no time at all. But his attitude slowly begins to change as he goes from interview to interview without landing a job. We see him begin to lose the things that mean the most to him. His golf membership, his fancy car, and finally his big house.
The Company Men does a good job of showing that it is not only the blue collar workers that get hurt in corporate downsizing. The very rich land on their feet, and for everyone else it is “every man for themselves”.
