Surprisingly, there seems to be a lot of PG rated films lately – which is nice for families.

We saw the previews in 3D and it looked like a cute film.

Which it was.

Just don’t go comparing it to anything by Pixar, but it has heart and humor.

Won’t bother to repeat the story.. But it was nice to see Love as the central message of a movie.

Love of a mother for a son, a son for his mother, children for their dad.

And the minions love for ..um.. Grul.

The message is that we sometimes lose track of what is important to us (family) when success gets in the way. And that wanting to please other people (Grul wanting to please his mother) stops us from being whom we were meant to be.

The minions were cute, but felt they could have been used more…

The cast was very good, and while the animation is not up to Pixar quality, the film was always watchable.

Ironically, my theater could only get the 2D version. Somehow, I think this would have been more fun in 3D.

Fun for the whole family – though there is one scene that looks like blood that could scare very young children.

What film, filled with fantasy, magic AND physics, mild horror, adventure, humour, great action and special effects? Why it’s Disney’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice of course. Starring Nicolas Cage and hometown (Montreal/Canadian) boy Jay Baruchel.

“The Sorcercer’s Apprentice” made its Canadian debut on Thursday July 8th, as the opening film feature at the commencement of the 14th edition of the Montreal Fantasia Film Festival, hosted, as it has been for the past several years by Concordia University.

In one of the venue’s largest theaters, about 700 of us were treated to the screening of said film, in advance of its opening next Wednesday, July 14th.

And what a treat it was.

After the general Festival opening announcements, Jay Baruchel (who was in attendance) introduced the film to the happy hometown audience. Then we sat back and allowed the magic to unfold.

Without giving too much (or anything) away, I can safely say that The Sorcercer’s Apprentice was indeed an enjoyable film.

Nic Cage made good as the “just a bit” crazy master sorcerer Balthazar Blake, on the quest to find the one who could be the next to acquire Merlin’s magic and defeat the evil Morgana.

And Baruchel proved to be well cast as the nerdy, endearing, reluctant hero / apprentice.

With a nice, balanced blend of action, adventure and pretty cool special effects. The film takes the viewer on a fun ride, reminiscent of classic Disney fun family fare. And it’d also no doubt leave you laughing out loud at some unexpected moments in dialogue.

If you enjoyed The National Treasure movies, then you will certainly enjoy The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

So, when I first saw this movie advertised, I thought ‘How lame and pointless’. But I was dragged to see it, and it got me by surprise. It was great! And actually very funny!

It’s about a guy named Mike, who could of had it all, but he left it for his girlfriend. Now Mike wishes he hadn’t, as he and his ex-wife are now on bad terms and are getting a divorce. However, when Mike tells a mysterious school janitor how he wishes to be 17 again to change his life, he just gets it! So Mike is now 17 again, and is finding out more about his kids, and even getting more closer to them…and his ex-wife.

The movie had a lot of comedy, sweet moments, and Zac Effron isn’t cheesy in this, apart from the beginning scene. But that’s one scene, you’ll live with that! It’s enjoyable and I would certainly recommend it!

So, to clear things up, 17 Again is a fun teen comedy that is a lot better than you think! I gave it 9/10 for it’s excellence!

The first day seeing this girl after eighteen years, we went to see this movie. I thought it was a good movie to see since we hadn’t seen each other since we were kids and this movie follows something along that line.

By the time the movie was finished, I remarked to her, “Happy Gilmore is better.” And she remarked, “It wasn’t Adam Sandler’s best movie.” Luckily, the movie wasn’t devoid of any comedic moments. There is. There are a lot laugh out loud parts to the movie like how they make fun of each other or Kevin James falling over something. It’s in the third act where I realized that this movie seems composed of scene after scene and how it almost tries to force you to love these characters.

And to me, that was the selling point of this movie. It was finding a way to put Adam Sandler, David Spade, Kevin James, Chris Rock, and Rob Schneider all in the same movie. Oh, and give Adam Sandler another hot wife (Salma Hayek). Since this is a summer movie, they threw them into a summer resort. And hey, let’s revert back to Happy Gilmore days and throw in a sport. Haven’t tried basketball yet. There we go! Throw that and some gags and we got a movie! And this falls into what I said before, scene after scene. You are just going from one scene to the next without a real focus to what their motivations are. There really isn’t any from what I saw.

Despite all that, I seen worse and there were some funny moments in the movie that merit a watch. I don’t see myself buying this on DVD or ranking this up there with the likes of Kick-Ass or Toy Story 3 but if this movie did one thing to me after watching it, it’s to make the best out of the summer before it’s gone.

I was surprised to find that this movie didn’t do well in the box office. Also, that it received much negative feedback. I just watched it with my girlfriends and had a great time! Don’t expect Shakespeare or Schindler’s. I think only those people who expected to see such in the movie are the ones terribly disappointed and *ahem* violent with their reactions. It’s a fun movie. It elicited laughs from us and a couple of times, some people from the audience clapped! Ha! Ha! The action scenes are just right. And one of the things that I really liked about it is that the movie was able to be funny without resorting to offensive measures (i.e. Borat).

Cameron Diaz is perfect for the role and Tom Cruise looked like he didn’t age a day since the first M:I. How does he do that?! Yes, we ogled him. Sue us. I can’t imagine any other actor playing his part.

If you want to have fun in the movies, see this. If you can, get this on DVD too when it comes out. It’s great for a group thing. There are some sweet lines in the movie that they are now forever ingrained in the “great movie lines” part of my brain.

Oh and the travels are great (Spain and Austria, anyone?). It made me want to travel ASAP. With a guapo guy like Tom wouldn’t be so bad. Really. Lol.

Is Toy Story 3 good? Yes, it is. Is it exciting? Yes. Is the animation good? Excellent. Is it worth the money? It’s worth. Is it better than the previous two? Much, much better. Toy Story 3 is an excellent movie for all ages.

First, the animation. The moves of the characters are simply perfect. Ken and Barbie, they’re robotic moves are so breathtaking. The moves are simply so detail and mesmerizing.

The appearances. Not much to talk about. But, the appearances of the characters were perfectly designed. The main characters were really cool. Ken and Barbie, they’re really designed in detail. For Barbie, the line where is visible in the neck was really detail. Ken is also really detail especially with his body. Lot-o-Huggin’-Bear was also carefully designed by the paper which often appears on dolls listing the warning or whatever.

The way the movie is presented. Very well done. In around 90 minutes of running time (excluding Day & Night), the movie was not boring at all. It had some laughable expressions which are pretty funny. I liked it when Buzz turns into Spanish mode where most of the audience laughed. That moment was hysterical. The scenes were also thrilling like the end scene (which I’m not going to tell you) or the scenes in Sunnyside. I thoroughly enjoyed the film.

The new characters. Well, I think there’s one negative point. I think little kids around the age of 3, 4 or 5 might be scared with the appearance of Big Baby, because, his appearance is kind of scary for little kids.

The 3D effects. Not so cheesy and not so breathtaking but pretty good. The depths of the items in the film were not bad.

The sound acting. They were really good. Tom Hanks on Woody was really good. He really projected his voice until he becomes a real Woody. Tim Allen on Buzz Lightyear was also good and satisfying. He really sounded like a real astronaut or space ranger. The others were also good. But, I think Tom Hanks on Woody still has the best projection of voice in the film.

Final thing, the short film attached to it: Day & Night. It was shockingly, awfully, crazily cool. That short film was quite funny. It was really good. Overall, the short film compliments to the film to be a very good movie.

I really recommend this movie to you, readers. If you want, watch it in 3D because the 3D effects (like I said) weren’t so bad but were also weren’t so good. Your kids will definitely be thrilled with the film. I think this is the best animated film of the year, or even the best film of all 2010

When I finished watching the movie “Bride Wars”, I commented it on our school bbs. I said that the fights against each other between the two women were so horrible. A male friend claimed that the conflicts of young ladies in another movie “Mean Girls” were even more terrifying. Therefore, I’ve found the movie and looked it through.

However, I still stick to my point that the first one seems more pathetic to me. Frequently in life, who hurts you most is not your biggest enemy but one of those that you think are your bosom friends. This is partly because these people possess of wider knowledge about you, your secrets, your weaknesses, and everything else. Moreover, the betrayal of whom you really care about itself can be a huge hit to your nerves.

According to my previous experiences, it gets even worse among girls due to their human nature. Male creatures are comparatively more independent. Men enjoy their relations with their soccer pals, hang-round buddies, working partners. They rely on each other, help each other when it is necessary; and go out together for a drink sometimes. But they seldom share their deepest feelings with one another. A man, for instance, would hardly consult another for his troubles of getting along with his girlfriend.

Friendship between girls is quite different from that between boys. Girls are willing to share almost whatever they have with their girl mates. They talk about every detail in life all the time on phone, face to face, over a cup of tea, when shopping together or during the sleepover time. It’s so natural for a girl to offer her own lip-care stick when she sees her friend’s lips are dry. And it’s common for a girl to open up with her friends about all the freaky habits of the bastard she’s dating for the moment. When a girl takes you as her true friend, you could definitely expect that she would try everything she could and use every single piece of her resources to help you out when you’re in trouble, while male friends tend to give you a hand only when you ask and at the cost they could afford without any impact to their normal life. I’m not trying to accuse men of being unhelpful or indifferent. They are just more rational and would consider more about their duties to their own families and others that they’re supposed to be responsible to.

Up to now, you might assume my point is that true friendship only happens or say has more possibilities to occur in girls’ world. Please don’t take it wrong. That’s not what I’m saying. Women are sensitive and easy to go extreme. They can be as strong hating you as they are loving you. Liv and Emma in “Bride Wars” are very good example of its kind. I’m not surprised why and how they did it. Not at all. The only thing astonishing me is that they finally forgave each other and got their friendship back. They let everything go just as it never happened and became closest friends again.

I can hardly believe this. And I’ve never seen this in reality before. I don’t know whether it is faked out in movies or other fictional works or it does happen in the west. But I do hope for its existence anyway.

Friendship’s excessively fragile, maybe frailer than true love, I guess. However, the frailty and rarity make it even more precious.

This movie is the lowest rated movie on IMDb that i decided to watch. So many people thrashed this when it came out to cinema, it has huge percentage of 1/10 ratings, and i thought that could be human stupidity, prejudice and hatred towards these kind of movies in general. And that is completely correct, this movie isn’t objectively underrated, if movies were math and you could calculate how good and how bad it is, how much is it worth, then this film definitely wouldn’t be on 3.0/10 rating. I’m not mathematician though, my rating of any movie isn’t objectively based, each rating i give is based on my personal opinion. When it comes to movie like ‘Hannah Montana: The Movie’ then my rating is (and everyone’s else’s should be too) based on amount of entertainment movie gave me, amount of UNBEARABLE flaws (bearable flaws are completely different story that don’t affect the movie in my opinion), likability of characters and also music (specificly for this movie, because it’s a big and important ingredient to it).

After seeing this movie i was fairly pleased and satisfied with it, doubling the rating that this movie has been given. Music is good, likable, catchy and somewhat emotional, that song ‘The Climb’ isn’t bad at all, i was surprised at first that it won “Best song from a movie” MTV Movie Award in competition with favored Paramore (‘Twilight’) and Bruce Springsteen (‘The Wrestler’), but that was before i saw this movie, now i understand why it won the award. Other songs are also catchy, although much “lighter” and usual for teen flicks. I know some people dislike the whole Billy Ray Cyrus – Miley Cyrus story and therefore they had prejudice towards this movie, in this movie they did a duet that i thought was pretty okay and likable. There weren’t many of those unbearable flaws that i mentioned earlier on, of course the whole plot is unrealistic and silly, but who cares? This isn’t some spiritually inspiring movie, this is a teen/chick flick… Likability of characters is on good level, between medium and high. Miley Cyrus was at start kind of shaky and not so likable in my opinion, but later on everything was alright. Everyone else pretty much fit in good, as in any other higher-rated chick flick. Their acting on the other hand is silly, exactly on level of newer chick flicks, and everyone who makes complaints about it should make the same complaints on 1000 of other movies.

You shouldn’t judge this movie by ratings and comments of other people, this movie doesn’t disappoint, it isn’t a masterpiece, a “MUST SEE” or anything like that, it’s just decent afternoon entertainment that could make you feel-good or feel stupid depending on what you expect and want from it. There are better ways of spending your 102 minutes of time, there are better teen flicks out there, but there are also many more that are much worse.
