Julie Powell who was 30 years old used to live in a rundown apartment in Queens. She worked as a secretary and was looking for something that broke the monotony of her life. One day she invented a wild assignment. The plan was to cook all 524 recipes of her mothers Julia Child’s 1961 classic Mastering the Art of French Cooking, in one year time.
At first this thought looked very easy. But as she moved from cooking the simple Potage Permentier or commonly known as potato soup into more complicated territory of aspics and crepes, she realized that there was lot more to Mastering the Art of French Cooking than meeting the eye. Julie having Julia’s harsh voice always in her ear haunted the local butcher buying kidneys and sweetbreads. She rarely served dinner before midnight and sent her husband on late night for more butter. In this way not Julie not only learnt how to cook additionally she also discovered laughter, joy and perseverance.
