Watch The Rite Description

The Rite will undoubtedly be compared to the 1973 masterpiece “The Exorcist”. Indeed, there are many parallels between the two movies.

Anthony Hopkins play Father Lucas Trevant, a very creepy and experienced exorcist who believes wholeheartedly in the existence of Pure Evil. He also believes in Pure Good, but doubts that good will always prevail.

Colin O’Donoghue plays Michael Kovak, a young clergyman who is in it just for the scholarship … and to get away from his over-bearing father. Kovak doesn’t plan to stay in the clergy for long, and in fact doesn’t really believe in God at all. He just sees this as some loophole to get an education.

Kovak ends up working with Father Trevant. Trevant takes Kovak under his wing as an apprentice in exorcisms. The balance of the movie deals with the two men’s beliefs in Good ad Evil as they take on the Devil himself in the form of a possessed little girl.

This is a mesmerizing movie with amazing performances from the lead actors. The final battle between Good and Evil will stay with you for a long time afterwards.

Watch I Spit on Your Grave 2010 Description

I didn’t think it was possible to out do the original 1970s movie I Spit on Your Grave. I was wrong.

This 2010 version is the most repulsive and misogynist movie ever made. I fact I don’t know how this movie wasn’t banned in the USA.

The so-called plot is nothing more than excuse for almost 2 hours of rape and revenge. A young woman who is new in town gets cornered and then viciously ganged raped multiple times by a pack of sick young guys. Every form of penetration is depicted, although never quite graphic enough to give this movie an X rating.

No matter though, because what is shown is sickening. After the woman recovers she then sets out to stalk and get revenge on each of the rapists. She certainly does get back at them, but by the time each of these lowlifes get their just desserts, the audience is so numb as to no longer feel much of anything.

Distasteful in every way.

Watch Saw 3D Description

This is the movie where Jigsaw lays it all out. Killing everything that moves, he is out for revenge in this final chapter of the phenomenally successful Saw franchise.

An author has become a worldwide sensation due to his book about being captured and tortured, but then ultimately escaping from the notorious serial killer Jigsaw. Now in the middle of a successful book tour, he is making money hand over fist. Just one problem …. the story isn’t true. It is all made up just to cash in on the terror and fear generated by the Jigsaw killings.

Unfortunately for this author, Jigsaw has become aware of him and is about to make him wish he were never born.

In a parallel story, Jigsaw is pissed that Jill (from the previous movie) tried to kill him. When she saw that she failed she immediately ran to the police for protection. Now Jigsaw is waging a one man war against the police department that is shielding her. If they don’t give her up he will continue to leave his death traps all over the city.

The body count is up, the traps are more ingenious and complex then ever, and no one seems to be able to stop Jigsaw. This was one terrifying movie!

Watch Paranormal Activity 2 Description

I don’t know how Paramount pulled this one off. The “trick” or “gimmick” of the first paranormal activity is pretty much already known by anyone who is going to go see this movie. But they managed to make this sequel, or more correctly, prequel, be even more suspenseful and thrilling than that first movie.

This chapter follows the lives of the family of Kristi Rey, who is the sister of the Katie, whose husband was killed in the first movie. Kristi’s home is right around the corner from where Katie and her husband lived.

Kristi and her husband Dan have just had a newborn son that they named Hunter. And since they are first-time parents they have their video camera rolling pretty much all of the time. That is all they need to capture the beginnings of their own horror, one that we later find out has direct effect on the happenings in the first movie.

This is definitely not just an excuse to grab more money from the Paranormal Activity audience. This edition can stand alongside the original as one of the better horror movies in the past 20 years.

Watch My Soul to Take Description

I was very pleased with this movie as it upped the body count and the imaginative slaughters that we expect to see from a Craven film.

I don’t want to give away too much, but what we have here is a troubled father who discovers that he has multiple personalities, and to his own horror that one of these is a serial killer that has been working in his small town for years. Wracked with guilt he contacts the police and attempts to commit suicide by cop … that is he goads the police into shooting him dead.

Unfortunately he does not immediately die, so as his ambulance is racing through the woods on the way to the hospital it crashes in a horrible accident killing everyone on board. Except for himself, who manages to get out of the crumpled hull and escape farther into the woods. The police search for but cannot find him. They conclude that since no one could survive those injuries out in the elements that he must have died.

Jump sixteen years later when a group of 7 kids are all celebrating their sweet sixteenth birthday. All of these teenagers were born on the same night that the serial killer was presumed killed.

But now these seven kids are being killed one after the other by some unseen enemy. Has the serial killer returned or does his soul reside inside one of these teens?

This is a very scary movie.

Watch Hatchet 2 Description

The last movie ended with the mass killings at Honey Island Swamp. The murderer Victor Crowley escaped believing he had killed everyone. But there was one lone survivor, Marybeth.

This movie tells about Marybeth’s quest to assemble a team of hunters and mercenaries and go back into the swamp for one last final showdown. But revenge comes with a price, and Victor is ready for the task force when they arrive.

The final battle is gruesome and explicit as many die in the swamp in the most horrible ways. Close up decapitations and vivisections made some people leave the theater where I was watching this film. Apparently there were too many complaints about the graphic violence and that is why AMC banned future showings.

This movie will be hard to find now, but if you can track it down … do!!!

Watch Case 39 Description

All you need to know about this movie is that it was made back in 2006 and released in countries other than the United States. The movie final saw its US release in 2008, two years after its creation, with almost no advertising. Now this is not the way you release a movie that the filmmakers think is going to be a big hit. No, this is the way you release a movie that you know is going to bomb.

The move title Case 39 represents the thirty ninth child abuse case assigned to social worker Emily Jenkins (Renée Zellweger). Apparently the parents of 10 year old Lilly Sullivan (Jodelle Ferland) tried to kill her in an oversized oven. The parents are now in a mental prison, and Emily feels so sorry for Lilly and takes such a liking to her that she quits her social worker job and brings Lilly into her own home as a temporary foster mother. This will be the arrangement until a suitable long term home can be found for Lilly.

Before too long friends and acquaintances of Emily’s start hallucinating and killing themselves in horrible ways. Emily discovers that before each incident Lilly had called each one up on the phone.

Emily begins to put the pieces together that this cute little child is really a demonic killing machine with a thirst for imaginative endings. Unfortunately there are so many plot holes in this story that if you are like me you will be more concerned with counting them all rather than paying attention to the movie.

My advice is to rent The Exorcist and see how this type of film should really be done.

This movie begins moments after the ending of the previous film Resident Evil Extinction. Alice (Milla Jovovich) takes her army of clones and goes searching for a way to get to the Umbrella Corporation, the company who allowed the deadly virus to spread and turn the population into killer zombies.

Full of inventive zombie kills, Resident Evil Afterlife 3D raises the bar for these types of movies by increasing the number of undead many times over. This is probably the best movies in this long running series.

Watch Piranha 3D Description

Piranha 3D is not bashful about what it wants to do as a movie. Show half naked college aged women with big breasts being eaten by razor tooth fish. And no other movie has ever done that as well as Piranha 3D.

The film centers around spring break and the college kids who come to Lake Victoria every year. As they converge here for the new year, no one realizes that an underwater earthquake has just opened the lake up to a previously blocked off second lake where prehistoric man eating piranha have been locked since the beginning of time. These fish are hungry and drunken college kids are just what they are craving.

There is a second parallel story going on at the same time where the director/owner of a “girls gone wild” type of franchise has arrived at the lake awaiting the coeds. The owner feels he can make a killing by video taping these woman getting plastered and then selling the dvds online.

We also have the classic cliché of the local sheriff who learns that something is wrong in the water but can’t close the beach due to meddling by money grabbing bosses.

This is fun, mindless entertainment!

Watch Vampires Suck Description

Ok, normally when a movie parodies another movie they write an original story and then pick different aspects of the characters or events to lampoon. But in Vampires Suck they actually retell the story of the first two Twilight movies, except they squish them down to 80 minutes in length.

This might not be so bad if the jokes at least worked, but they don’t. I can’t believe it, but almost nothing is funny. I am just thankful that I didn’t pay to see this bomb at a theater. In fact, I should probably sue the movie studio for that 80 minutes that I wasted and will never get back.

Okay, if you want to see this movie then you’d better watch it online because you will be pissed you spent a penny on it otherwise.
