Watch The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Description
It is very disappointing for someone like me, who has read and reread all of the Narnia books, to be anxiously awaiting the film only to be completely fooled into thinking that it would follow the book. This movie does not.
Events have been changed, condensed or removed from the script completely. Well know or famous lines and quotes from the book have been altered or forgotten. And the whole movie overall seems like someone made this film from a fading memory after reading the book once, 20 years ago.
I think the main problem is that the filmmakers tried to jam the entire novel into a 2 hour movie. The book has probably 7 concurrent storylines that it follows. This film also contains those same storylines, but in an almost incoherent abbreviated form. Too much was stripped to make everything fit into that “magical” 120 minute limit.
If the filmmakers had done what the Potter people did … namely split this book into two movies, we probably wouldn’t have this problem.
It is too late now for this movie. Maybe the makers of the next chapter will think this through a little more.
