Watch Biutiful Description

If you can get past the very bleak and depressing themes in this movie, then you will be rewarded with one of the best acting jobs of the year.

Javier Bardem plays Uxbal, a fun loving but shady father of two. Uxbal makes a living in poor areas of Barcelona by acting as a middleman in the trafficking of illegal immigrants. A lifetime criminal, Uxbal is really not a bad man, he just does what he does to provide for his family the best he can.

Uxbal’s priorities change when he gets a diagnosis of terminal cancer. He worries about his children since their mother really isn’t able to care for them. A drug addict with mental problems, he can’t imagine what their lives would be like under her care.

The movie deals with Uxbal’s coming to terms with his wasted life as he searches for someone he can trust to raise his kids after he’s gone. Bardem is fantastic in the role of the flawed father desperate to make amends before he passes.

Watch The Rite Description

The Rite will undoubtedly be compared to the 1973 masterpiece “The Exorcist”. Indeed, there are many parallels between the two movies.

Anthony Hopkins play Father Lucas Trevant, a very creepy and experienced exorcist who believes wholeheartedly in the existence of Pure Evil. He also believes in Pure Good, but doubts that good will always prevail.

Colin O’Donoghue plays Michael Kovak, a young clergyman who is in it just for the scholarship … and to get away from his over-bearing father. Kovak doesn’t plan to stay in the clergy for long, and in fact doesn’t really believe in God at all. He just sees this as some loophole to get an education.

Kovak ends up working with Father Trevant. Trevant takes Kovak under his wing as an apprentice in exorcisms. The balance of the movie deals with the two men’s beliefs in Good ad Evil as they take on the Devil himself in the form of a possessed little girl.

This is a mesmerizing movie with amazing performances from the lead actors. The final battle between Good and Evil will stay with you for a long time afterwards.

Jason Statham stars as Arthur Bishop, an experienced “problem solver” (read that as “hit man”) for a large unnamed corporation. Bishop has been a loyal company man for years, in fact he has been their best killer.

Meticulous with an eye for the smallest detail, Bishop is able to make each assassination appear as a believable accident with no hint of foul play.

One day Bishop gets his new assignment … to bump off his handler. Even though he is conflicted about killing his friend, he does so because that is what he is paid to do. Then, in a contrived turn of events, his former handler’s son becomes his protege. Bishop teaches him just about everything he knows, knowing that some day the kid will find out who really offed his dad and will come looking for revenge.

Though you know that the movie is setting everything up for a final showdown, the payoff is so good that you don’t mind the paper-thin plot and convenient coincidences.

Watch I Spit on Your Grave 2010 Description

I didn’t think it was possible to out do the original 1970s movie I Spit on Your Grave. I was wrong.

This 2010 version is the most repulsive and misogynist movie ever made. I fact I don’t know how this movie wasn’t banned in the USA.

The so-called plot is nothing more than excuse for almost 2 hours of rape and revenge. A young woman who is new in town gets cornered and then viciously ganged raped multiple times by a pack of sick young guys. Every form of penetration is depicted, although never quite graphic enough to give this movie an X rating.

No matter though, because what is shown is sickening. After the woman recovers she then sets out to stalk and get revenge on each of the rapists. She certainly does get back at them, but by the time each of these lowlifes get their just desserts, the audience is so numb as to no longer feel much of anything.

Distasteful in every way.

Watch Winter’s Bone Description

Winter’s Bone is by no means an entertaining movie. It is spectacularly acted, but the story is sure to leave you feeling worse than you did when you walked into the theater.

The film takes place in a very poor section in the Ozark mountains of Missouri. Unemployment is high and money is scarce. Many of the people have turned to manufacturing drugs in homemade “meth” labs to make a living. It is this illegal methamphetamine industry that sets the events of this movie in motion.

Jennifer Lawrence plays Ree Dolly, a 16 year old girl who takes care of her two younger sisters and catatonic mother. Her father is deep into the drug trade and is only sometimes home, so the family depends upon the generosity of the neighbors to cover many of their needs.

One day a sheriff comes by the house and tells Ree that her father has been arrested for manufacturing drugs. He also tells her that he used the family home to cover bail, but now he has disappeared. If he doesn’t come forward within 10 days then the family will lose the home and Ree, her sisters and mother will all be out on the street.

The bulk of the movie deals with Ree doing everything she can to locate her “criminal on the run” dad and save the house. She encounters many obstacles, including her neighbors and friends who don’t want to give her any information for fear of their own illegal drug activities becoming unveiled.

This forces Ree to make some horrible decisions that effect the entire family by the close of the movie.
