Watch 17 Again Description
This movie is not at all what I expected. Zac Efron is obviously much more of an actor than those High School Musical movies showed.
The movie is very similar to all of those other “age changing” or “body switching” type films that we have seen before … movies like 18 Again (with George Burns, of which this is the remake), Freaky Friday, Vice Versa, etc). In this movie there is no body swap, just a thirty-something husband and father who wishes that he were young again so he could relive his life and make better choices.
Well the father (Matthew Perry, in a surprisingly short role) wakes up one day to see that he has become the age of 17 again. His 17 year old counterpart is played by Zac Efron.
The rest of the movie shows how the father (Efron) gets to live his 17th year over again while still being aware that he is actually a middle-aged man. And this is where Zac Efron shines. He is able to show all of the eagerness and charisma of a teenager while also being able to channel the feelings and mannerisms of a man 20 year older. And since most of the movie deals with Efron he is most of the scenes. The movie pretty much rests on his shoulders and he handles it perfectly.
The movie is rated PG and only shows some teenage kissing. If your kids can handle that then this would be a good movie for the whole family.
