Watch Extract Description

There was the returning of Mike Judge to the big screen with his film “Extract,” which is in fact a comedy about the trials and problems of owning a small business.

The chief character Joel, played by Jason Bateman, owns an extract company in Texas and is on the cusp of being bought out by a larger corporation. Opposite to him in the movie is his wife Suzie, played by Kristen Wiig, a temporary hire played by Mila Kunis and his best friend and confidant, a drug-addled Ben Affleck.

With others in the sustaining cast, Judge is able to convey an environment working Americans — specifically Texans — can share to.

This movie is found to perhaps be the weakest yet. In fact, most of the comedic instances were in reality comedic, but the plan elements didn’t seem to fit as well as one would have desired.

Firstly, the weakening link between Bateman and Wiig is one which is repeated too often in the movie: They are really an outwardly happily-married couple living in a wonderful house in an upper-middle class community, yet at the interior they are really wandering separately. This however is an overplayed situation, but it did help add to the environment of the movie as well as the growth of Bateman’s character.

However, most of the comedy came from either the floor workers in Bateman’s factory or from the horrible suggestion which really Ben Affleck’s character gives him. Bateman’s character regularly visits a bar in the evening time because of his marital problems, and the bartender, played by Affleck, is his best companion from college.

The other grand comedic presentation came from Gene Simmons. His character’s name is Joe Adler — clear mention to Jim Adler — who is in fact a lawyer hired to sue the company.

It may be the fact that the common viewers may not be too overwhelmed, but any fans of Mike Judge will be satisfied. Really, “Extract” is full of references to old Judge Films, horse tranquilizers, a pool-boy gigolo and an unaccredited Judge cameo.

That is why the “Extract” is certain to delight, if no one else, Mike Judge fans and it is sure.
