Watch The Way Back Description
The Way Back tells the tale of World War 2 prisoners in a Russian concentration camp (gulag) in Siberia who attempt an impossible escape across thousands of miles of barren land. Their plan is to get out of the prison and walk all the way to India to freedom.
This is not your typical war movie with lots of explosions and action. In fact, there are long stretches of film where there seems to be little going on other than walking and searching for food and shelter. But you can’t keep your eyes off the movie. A great job by director Peter Weir.
The stand out performance from this unbelievable film is given by Colin Farrell. As the extremely violent and unpredictable Russian criminal “along for the ride”, Farrell is menacing as the prisoner whose “special abilities” might come in handy during the escape.
Farrell has been so good in recent movies that you forget that he had that “bad boy” Hollywood image not so long ago.
