Jason Statham stars as Arthur Bishop, an experienced “problem solver” (read that as “hit man”) for a large unnamed corporation. Bishop has been a loyal company man for years, in fact he has been their best killer.

Meticulous with an eye for the smallest detail, Bishop is able to make each assassination appear as a believable accident with no hint of foul play.

One day Bishop gets his new assignment … to bump off his handler. Even though he is conflicted about killing his friend, he does so because that is what he is paid to do. Then, in a contrived turn of events, his former handler’s son becomes his protege. Bishop teaches him just about everything he knows, knowing that some day the kid will find out who really offed his dad and will come looking for revenge.

Though you know that the movie is setting everything up for a final showdown, the payoff is so good that you don’t mind the paper-thin plot and convenient coincidences.

Sylvester Stallone, one of the biggest worldwide action stars of the 1980s, wrote this screenplay about a group of mercenaries who are called upon to do jobs thought impossible. Well Stallone himself pulled off something that most would have thought impossible … gather all the biggest actions stars of the past 30 years and put them in this movie with him.

The stars appearing alongside Stallone are Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Jett Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts and Stone Cold Steve Austin. And in one scene Stallone, Schwarzenegger and Willis all appear onscreen together for the first and only time. Incredible!

After the CIA approaches Stallone to overthrow a South American drug lord, he and a few of his men go to South America to do some reconnaissance. While there they get ambushed by a ruthless General and have to fight their way out. All but one escape the country.

When Stallone returns he gathers his team to go back and rescue the person left behind, knowing she will be tortured and killed. They must also find out who set them up to be killed, and if it was someone on the team.

The Expendables is not a “must see” movie due only to all the actors involved, it is also a very good action thriller in its own right. You won’t be disappointed.
