Watch The Warriors Description
The Warriors is a straight out classic. It came out of nowhere in 1979 with virtually unknown actors but with a blockbuster soundtrack. For those old enough to have seen the movie back in 1979 it is impossible think of the Eagles hit song “In the City” without thinking of this movie.
The plot is simple and straightforward. All the gangs of New York are called to an outdoor meeting by the head of the largest gang. The purpose is to try to get some type of cease-fire among the rival gangs and start working together. During the meeting the head gang guy is murdered, and the gang from Coney Island … The Warriors … is framed for the murder. All alone and with big targets on their backs, the Warriors try to get out of harms way and back to their home turf before the rival gangs and police can catch them.
The movie is structured like a video game. There are fights with several of the rival gangs separated by stretches of suspense as the Warriors try to find their way out of New York City. Each gang fight is incredibly realistic with weapons such as sticks, clubs, baseball bats, etc. The Warriors numbers dwindle as they lose members during each fight, and each subsequent fight is with a gang tougher than before.
With a cast of (then) unknowns you couldn’t guess how the story would go or ultimately end, which added to the overall suspense. I guarantee that once you see the final disturbing scene you will never forget it.
