Watch The Karate Kid Description
Though this story may now sound like a cliché, back in 1984 when the original film was released it was brand new. It is only due to the many terrible imitations since that this plot has become stale.
But not so with this excellent remake.
The Karate Kid 2010 stars Jaden Smith (Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s son) as the boy who is constantly bullied until he meets the wise old Chinese man who agrees to teach him self defense. In the process he teaches the kid as much about life as he does about fighting.
Jaden Smith plays Dre, a fatherless boy who lives with his mother in Detroit. When the local economy goes bad Dre’s mother lands a job in China, so they pack up and move to Beijing.
Almost immediately after arriving he begins to get bullied by some of the bigger kids in his school. With no hope of defending himself because of his small size he resorts to hiding in rooms and around corners to avoid his tormentors.
One day a Chinese handyman named Mr Han (Jackie Chan) witnesses Dre getting beat up by several kids in an alley after school. Han jumps in to protect Dre and teach the older bullies a lesson. Astonished that one old man can defeat several people, Dre begs Mr Han to teach him to fight.
Mr Han agrees as long as Dre agrees to follow everything the teacher says without question. In addition, the training would end with Dre competing in the upcoming Kung Fu tournament.
The movie follows Dre as he trains under Mr Han’s unorthodox techniques, and ends with the rousing and audience pleasing final competition.
