Watch Avatar Description
It is impossible to overstate what effect this movie will have on the entire film industry. The visuals are something that have not been seen before. My guess is that James Cameron decided to use a new technology that had not really been perfected, and then perfected it during the making of this movie. The characters are so rich and stunning, with movements that look so natural that you forget that you are watching CGI. This is also the best example of 3D technology that I have ever seen. Gone are those red and green tinted paper 3d glasses that people used to wear not so many years ago. Replaced by real glasses that actually do something, not just an optical illusion.
The story deals with what many see as the danger of unchecked technological advances. The destruction of natural resources plays a central theme in this world.
